Asda expands London presence with new Express stores

Asda is expanding its London presence with the launch of the first of a series of new London convenience store openings.

Following its first London Asda Express branch opening in Tottenham Hale last December, the UK supermarket giant is planning to open three more sites in the coming week.

The West Ealing, Willesden and Greenford sites will be joined by 12 more over the following months, joining the grocer’s current eight London locations.

“We identified London as a focus area for our growth in convenience, not only due to the size of the population, but also because of the higher propensity of convenience store usage amongst Londoners,” said Asda marketing director of convenience Andy Perry.

“In a densely populated area, with relatively low car ownership, we know that shopping locally is often preferable.

“Convenience is one of the fastest growing channels in the grocery market and developing our presence in this space is key to our long-term strategy to become the UK’s second largest supermarket retailer.”

UK’s third largest supermarket recently celebrated opening its 100th Asda Express store, following a rapid national rollout of Co-op and EG Group conversions.

Elsewhere, Asda co-owner, Mohsin Issa, was accused of submitting and failing to notify MPs of errors in a letter he submitted to the Business and Trade Committee, as evidence.
