Sainsbury’s is investing £15m to cut the price of cupboard staples such as rice and pasta in a bid to help customers manage their budgets.

As food inflation remains double-digit, Sainsbury’s has said it will continue to cut prices on essential products throughout the summer.

For the first time, all by Sainsbury’s ‘happier and healthier’ whole chicken breast fillets will be included in its Aldi Price Match. This follows the commitment it made in March to increase the space for all chickens used in this range by 20% more than the industry standard.

Sainsbury’s food commercial director Rhian Bartlett, said: “As the cost-of-living challenges continue, we remain relentlessly focused on lowering prices on the essential products that make the biggest difference to our customers.

“In the last two years we’ve invested £560m in keeping prices low and more recently we’ve reduced the price of high-volume essentials including bread and butter, milk, tuna and toilet roll.

“These latest price cuts will help reassure customers that we will continue to pass on savings as soon as we see the wholesale price of food fall.”
