Sainsbury’s has reduced the price of its own-brand bread and butter as it looks to help shoppers save during the cost-of-living crisis.
The Big 4 grocer’s 800g soft white medium, wholemeal medium, wholemeal thick and toastie white loaves are dropping in price by 11% to 75p.
Sainsbury’s is also extending the price cut to its salted and unsalted butter with a 5% reduction to £1.89 for 250g.
The change comes as commodity prices are starting to fall for wheat and butter.

“We know that our customers are always looking for help with the cost of living which is why we are constantly considering ways to keep prices low,” Sainsbury’s food commercial director, Rhian Bartlett said.
“We have been battling hard to beat inflation and whenever we are paying less for the products we buy from our suppliers, we will pass those savings on to customers.”
However, Sainsbury’s has confirmed that the price cuts on butter and bread will not impact the amount that it pays farmers as it works closely with them to navigate current cost pressures.
Bartlett added: “We are committed to offering our customers the best value possible so they can be confident that they are getting a great deal on their everyday essentials when they shop with us.”
Last month, Sainsbury’s reduced milk prices in-store and online as production costs started to decline.
As a result, it is now offering four pint own-brand milk for £1.55, two pints for £1.25 and 90p for a pint.
