Earlier this month, Tarry was identified as a possible replacement for Potts and is one of the names headhunters Egon Zehnder have been singled out for the position.

Tarry previously worked with Potts and is a former colleague of Morrisons chairman Sir Terry Leahy, who ran Tesco until 2011.

Potts, who has spent almost 10 years at the supermarket giant has not resigned, however announced that he expects to step down in 2024.

US private equity firm, Clayton Dubilier & Rice which tookover Morrisons in a £7 billion deal in 2021, has also been working with Egon Zehnder to find a replacement for chief operating officer, Trevor Strain who left Morrisons last month after 13 years.

This is Money has said a range of candidates have been discussed as the potential new CEO, with some already having been approached.
