Asda to scrap Blue Light Card discount for NHS and emergency workers

Asda’s Blue Light Card discount offer for NHS staff is coming to an end on December 31, 2022, despite the grocer reinstating it in May.

With the card, customers can receive discounts on food, George clothing and homeware, toys, gifts and optical products.

The supermarket chain introduced the 10% off discount last year as a thank you for anyone working in emergency services, including the NHS, police, fire, social care sector and armed forces.

Asda removed the 12-week qualifying period for colleague discount until October, which meant new recruits could benefit from a 10% discount off their shopping from their first day of employment.

The 10% discount was first extended until January 31, 2022, but Asda extended it further until December 31, 2022, to ensure families and individuals across the UK “have a magical Christmas.”

Workers in the NHS, emergency services, social care sector and the armed forces can present their cards at the checkout.

The news comes as Asda is preparing to open its first Asda Express in London as the retailer continues building its presence in the fast-growing convenience sector.
