Branston donates one million meals to FareShare

National potato supplier Branston has donated one million meals to FareShare in a bid to fight hunger and reduce food waste.

Working alongside the charity which aims relieve food poverty across the UK, Branston has delivered 418 tonnes of potatoes across its Lincoln, Taunton and Perth sites.

The regular weekly donations of six pallets of potatoes per site has seen the collaboration supporting 1,426 charities such as food banks, hostels, refuges, community centres, older people’s lunch clubs, school clubs and hospices.

Also aiming to reduce food waste, any potato not meeting store criteria or unable to be used for ready to cook meals due to size or shape differences is also donated.

“Reaching this huge milestone is a proud moment for Branston,” Branston HR director, Simon Telfer said.

“Supporting charitable organisations is a major part of our ethos and FareShare’s commitment to not only reducing food waste, but also providing nourishing meals for those in need, really resonates with us as a business.

“As more and more people are affected by the ongoing cost of living crisis, we’re so pleased to be supporting a range of charities that offer help to those in need, from food banks to community kitchens.”
