Nespresso becomes certified B Corp

Nespresso has been certified as a B Corp, joining 700 other companies in the UK in achieving high social and environmental standards.

The coffee brand joins 4,900 global B corps and meet standards across responsibility, accountability and transparency including Patagonia and The Body Shop.

Its sustainability mission follows the process from sourcing to recycling, as Nespresso is aiming to be completely carbon neutral by the end of 2022.

Currently, the company sources 93% of its coffee through its AAA Sustainable Quality Program where almost half of it is certified by the Rainforest Alliance or Fairtrade.

“B Corp Certification reflects a 30-year Nespresso commitment to sustainability, transparency and responsible business. We are immensely proud to be joining a community of like minds who share our belief that profit and purpose go hand-in-hand,” Nespresso CEO Guillaume Le Cunff said.

The capsule itself is also made from aluminium in a bid to ensure it is “infinitely recyclable” and can be “recirculated into the supply chain”.

This coincides with Podback‘s mission to “create a world where every coffee pod enjoyed is recycled through one simple service”, as it hopes to work with all coffee brands that use aluminium or plastic pods in the UK and ROI.

Cunff added: “This certification brings added value for our customers and affirms to Nespresso fans that their favourite coffee brand is doing business the right way.”

“Most importantly, B Corp Certification inspires us to do more. It strengthens our commitment to our vision that every cup of Nespresso coffee has a positive impact on the world.”
