AF Blakemore names David Cooke as new commercial director

Food wholesaler and distributor AF Blakemore has announced the appointment of David Cooke as its group commercial director.

Cooke took up the newly created role on 7 February and reports directly to chief executive Jerry Marwood.

At AF Blakemore, Cooke will lead the wholesaler’s commercial function, with a focus on developing supplier partnerships, managing commercial trading terms, developing retail propositions and accelerating the rollout of AF Blakemore’s fresh food strategy.

Additionally, he will be tasked with creating and implementing a new commercial strategy aligned with the group’s five-year plan.

Prior to joining AF Blakemore, Cooke developed a strong background in trading, proposition and product development through stints with national and international organisations such as Sainsbury’s, Tesco and A.S Watson.

His most recent role was as a director of food, health and beauty for Dutch store chain Hema.

“He brings significant commercial experience in developing strategic relationships with suppliers as well as a background in the development of exciting food propositions,” AF Blakemore chief executive Jerry Marwood said.

“David is a great fit for our culture, having been attracted to AF Blakemore because of our values and approach to responsible business.”
