Fischer Farms appoints former Morrisons sales head as new sales director

Fischer Farms has appointed a new sales director, Jon Cummings, as they prepare to launch the world’s biggest vertical farm later this year.

The vertical farming pioneers have taken a trailblazing approach to sustainable food production, attracting strong global and commercial interest.

Cummings, who has previously held senior commercial positions with Asda, Morrisons, Kerry Foods and Glenhaven Foods, will support Fischer Farms as they scale up their operations to bring 6.5 tonnes of leaf salads and herbs to UK supermarkets every day.

In his new position, Cummings will play a key role in safeguarding the UK’s food security by reducing our reliance on imports and working closely with manufacturers, retailers, and distributors to bring the highest quality, home-grown fresh produce to consumers.

Cummings, sales director for Fischer Farms, said: “Having worked in food production for over 20-years, it is incredibly exciting to be working at the forefront of this pioneering sector.

“Vertical farming offers immense promise for some of the most complex challenges currently facing the food supply chain. As the import model becomes increasingly unstable, we must embrace agritech and let it drive a revolution in British-grown produce.

“Fischer Farms is leading the way in sustainable food production, and when the new farm is up and running later this year, we will have the capacity to provide 72,000 bags of leaf salad, leafy herbs, and other fresh produce to UK retailer every day, all year round.

“Our financial backing, and strong retailer interest, demonstrates the game-changing potential that vertical farming provides, and I look forward to being a part of this trailblazing movement.”
