Love British Food names Red Tractor lead assurance partner
The partnership will focus on encouraging greater sourcing of assured British food across retail, foodservice and the public sector.
Love British Food is marking its 25th anniversary and aims to connect the promotion of British produce with Red Tractor’s assurance standards.
The organisations said the tie-up would help consumers better understand the standards and provenance behind assured British food, while supporting retailers, caterers and other buyers with sourcing decisions.
Love British Food founder Alexia Robinson said: “British farm businesses need wider industry ambition to translate into meaningful commercial action.
“This partnership brings together the reach of both organisations across food production, foodservice, retail and consumers to amplify support for British food and farming.”
Robinson added that aligning the organisations’ activity would help encourage British sourcing to be reflected in purchasing decisions, menus and tender specifications.
Red Tractor chief executive Paul McLaughlin said: “British farmers, growers and processors work hard every day to produce food to high standards, and they deserve to see that recognised throughout the supply chain.
“With every major retailer and many foodservice companies in the UK already specifying Red Tractor assurance in their sourcing policies, we want to do more to grow consumer understanding of the logo while creating new opportunities for assured businesses throughout the supply chain.”
The partnership will also support activity around British Food Fortnight, which will run from September 26 to October 11.
Love British Food and Red Tractor will use their networks to encourage more farmers, growers, producers and caterers to take part in the campaign.
