Co-op expects to sell 2.2 million flower stems ahead of Mother’s Day

News

Co-op is preparing to sell more than 2.2 million stems of flowers ahead of Mother’s Day, marking a 20 per cent year-on-year increase as shoppers continue to turn to bouquets as a traditional gift for the occasion.

The convenience retailer has expanded its fresh flower range this year, offering options from budget bouquets through to more premium arrangements in a bid to cater to a range of shoppers.

Among the range, Co-op expects its 100 per cent Fairtrade Bright and Beautiful Mother’s Day bouquet, priced at £8, to be the biggest seller as demand for ethically sourced flowers continues to grow.

Also featured in the line-up is the Abundance of Tulips bouquet (£10), which showcases British-grown tulips and aims to capture the freshness and colour associated with the spring season. The retailer said the bouquet is also expected to prove popular with shoppers marking the day.

Amy Calcutt, senior buying manager at Co-op, said: “Flowers continue to be one of the most meaningful ways for customers to show appreciation and celebrate life’s important moments, so this year we’ve expanded our range to offer even more choice in stores.

“We know value and quality are front of mind when choosing a gift for someone special, and we’ve ensured there’s something for every budget.

“At the same time, we’re proud to champion British growers and Fairtrade across our range, bringing customers beautiful blooms they can feel good about.”

To support the seasonal push, Co-op is also offering half-price Mother’s Day cards when shoppers purchase a bouquet, allowing customers to pair flowers with a greeting card at a lower cost.
