Aldi set to increase minimum pay rate for second time in two months
German supermarket Aldi has announced another pay raise for its store assistants, with over 28,000 staff members receiving higher pay starting from 1 September.
The discounter raised the minimum rate from £13.00 an hour, to £13.02, increasing to £13.95 with length of service.
In London, rates will rise from £14.05 an hour to £14.35, increasing to £14.66 with length of service.
The new base rate surpasses the Real Living Wage of £12.60, set by the Living Wage Foundation and the move reiterates Aldi’s commitment to “never to be beaten on pay”.
The supermarket currently holds the position of highest-paying supermarket in the UK.

This marks the second pay rise in two months for the discounter, which aims to maintain its position as a leader in retail pay.
Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer of Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “Our colleagues are at the heart of our success, and we’re committed to ensuring they are fully rewarded for the outstanding work they do.”
Additionally, the German discounter is the only retailer that provides paid breaks, worth approximately £1,425 per year for store assistants.
In July, Aldi upped its minimum pay rate from £12.75 an hour to £13.00, becoming the first UK supermarket to pay this rate.
