According to The Grocer, the company revealed the move would impact around 380 employees at its current site, but said it was providing an “extensive people care programme which includes outplacement, financial and wellbeing support, as well as redeployment opportunities and assistance to the Peterborough site”.

Around 300 new jobs are expected to be created with the opening of the Peterborough factory, which was announced in 2020.

As a result, McCormick EMEA president Ana Sanchez said it had been a “very difficult decision”, with the business “committed” to providing its staff members at Littleborough with full support and care.

She added that it “remains a dedicated employer in the UK and redeployment opportunities to our Peterborough site will remain part of our ongoing assistance programme”.
